Giuseppe Nicolini (1762-1842) worked as a musician throughout almost fifty years, between the late 1700s and the early 1800s.
His compositions concerned every musical genre and, together with melodramatic repertory, with no doubt the most remarkable, we spot orchestral compositions, religious music and a significantly imponent production of chamber music, both instrumental and vocal. Nicolini had great fame, mostly thank to his theatrical works, which gave him notoriety in every european theatre.
Nicolini's "Ariette" are around thirty, and were passed from generation to generation through written versions, a great part of which are kept at the "Biblioteca Palatina" in Parma. In nearly all of them there is a collaboration by piano or guitar, both written in the sheet music. There is a frequent alternation between lyrical moments and moments of reflection about nymph Nice's love feelings. Love is, in Nicolini's "Ariette", the most preminent theme. It is even expressed through the use of instruments: sweet serenades for love laments and sparkling melody for the happier moments.
